Guidelines for a literature-based assessment of non-validated educational programs for students with learning disabilities using the processing and cognitive enhancemnt (i.e., enhancement) (PACE) program as a case study

The purpose of this project is to develop a set of guidelines for literature-based assessments of educational programs for which there is no published, independent research. In order to demonstrate such an analysis, this project investigates the literature regarding PACE (Processing and Cognitive Enhancement) program. PACE was designed to identify and remediate cognitive deficiencies in learners who struggle. To date, no independent research has been published concerning the effectiveness of the program. This project explores the theory behind the PACE program, reviews the effectiveness of interventions which have used similar approaches, and examines the characteristics of interventions with similar goals as the PACE program that have been demonstrated to be effective through independent research. Based upon these findings, this project makes an assessment of the probable efficacy of the PACE program in remediating learning disabilities. Finally, limitations of this project are noted, and recommendations are made for future research.
