Discrimination against the Negro in American athletics

A study of discrimination against the Negro in American sports therefore has an importance beyond its interest to the sport fane. As discrimination in sports has faded, discrimination in other walks of life has also waned. Conversely, where there has been tightening of the barriers against mixed sports competition, it has usually been part of a general effort to strengthen the barriers between the races in other types of action and reaction will be discussed in the ensuing pages. The purpose of this paper will be to trade the historical background of color lines in American sports, to show in what manner these color lines in American sports, to show in what manner those color lines in have been broken, and to outline, as adequately as possible with the information available, the present situation in this significant field of American activity.
