Abstract:
The project described herein was directed toward an examination of the dysfunctionalities and component structures of the primary social and physical elements which, in combination, comprise the housing system of the aged population of the Fresno-Clovis, California, urbanized area. More specifically, the housing requirements, problems, and preferences of the local population aged 65 and over were investigated; particular attention was given to the geographical/locational aspects of the elderly housing system and their implications for social and physical planning. A secondary emphasis was given to the various aspects of physical and social dependence and independence which are so closely related to social and physical planning. These phenomena are especially important for the elderly since the nature of the community planning process can greatly affect the degree of independence which the elderly population experiences.
